California And NY Light Up For The Sumptuously Stylish Mother And Child Premiere

Hollywood’s Mother and Child Premiere took place on April 19 and it drew stars like moths to a flame. As usual, fashion ruled, as attendees were dressed to the nines in sharp tuxedos and beautiful gowns. More and more, fashion seems to overtake the purpose of these events, but no one seems to be complaining.

Mother And Child star Kerry Washington was a vision to behold in a J. Mendel print dress. Heels from Sergio Rossi and a clutch bag in gold highlighted the frock. The star’s accessories went far from unnoticed due to the large pink Amrapali ring on her hand.

Amanda Seyfried arrived at the premiere wearing a dress from the Bodyamr Fall 2010 line. The purple and grey silk number made quite a statement. Perhaps this was because Seyfried appears to have worn the dress backward. The Bodyamr fashion show illustrated that the zipper should be displayed on the back, not front, of the dress. Seyfried did not star in the movie so perhaps dressing to attend the premiere was an afterthought.

New York was the site of the April 26 premiere of the film and the fashion show continued. Classic looks, like the Stella McCartney black cropped pants and lace-accented black top worn by Naomi Watts, ruled the night. Watts kept the color scheme going by pairing the outfit with a black clutch and heels. The look was understated, but at the same time elegant.

Kerry Washington made a follow-up appearance to her showing at the Hollywood premiere and caused quite a splash. Her black and lilac mini dress was sassy and highlighted her beauty. The Zac Posen design was altered from the runway version that sported sheer sleeves. Washington wore peep-toe heels and carried a black clutch to complete her outfit. One can only wait too see what she will pull off at the The Joneses Premiere.

It is hard to believe that stars like Annette Bening and Samuel L. Jackson are considered “old timers” but it is a sad reality. Bening paired her sleek black pantsuit with actor/husband Warren Beatty and the two made quite an attractive couple. The always sharply dressed Samuel L. Jackson and his beautiful spouse Latanya Richardson also turned heads.

All came out to view this film that emphasizes the importance of family by providing viewers with a glimpse into the lives of three women. A mother and daughter pair highlight the painful repercussions that adoption can have on a family. At the time, the mother was barely 14; she became pregnant and decided to give up her baby for adoption. She remains haunted by this difficult decision, though viewers can see that the now-grown daughter has done well for herself by becoming a lawyer. The third subject of the movie has just come to terms with the fact that she and her husband are unable to conceive a baby. This couple has decided to pursue adoption as an alternative.

The New York and Los Angeles Mother and Child Premiere exposed this touching movie to the most high profile actors in the world. It is certain that there were few dry eyes in the house. The stars did not disappoint when it came to fashion and the designs showcased left all of us holding our breaths for the next big movie premiere. Kid Rock maintains a remarkable propensity for wearing his contradictions on his sleeve, and more than anything he’s previously released, Rock n Roll Jesus finds fuel in unresolved opposites. Is he a hard-core chauvinist (“Half Your Age”) or a would-be gentlemen (“When U Love Someone”)? Is he a God-fearing everyman (“Blue Jeans and a Rosary”) or a bohemian hero (“So Hott”)? These questions are not…

Somewhere over the Rainbow: The Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals

$18.14

The “Golden Age” referred to here spans The Jazz Singer and the advent of the talkies to the death throes of the old studio system in the 1960s. So vast was the era’s musical landscape that even this 42-track, double-disc anthology can’t encompass all its peaks. Not surprisingly, the bulk of this collection originated with the Tiffany’s of the screen musical, M-G-M, a body of work whose riches her…

Top Gun (Widescreen Special Collector’s Edition)

$5.88

Jingoism, beefcake, military hardware, and a Giorgio Moroder rock score reign supreme over taste and logic in this Tony Scott film about a maverick trainee pilot (Tom Cruise) who can’t follow the rules at a Navy aviation training facility. The dogfight sequences between American and Soviet jets at the end are absolutely mechanical, though audiences loved it at the time. The love story between Crui…

Eddie Murphy Raw

Eddie Murphy Raw

$2.95

The audacious concert film Eddie Murphy Raw rubbed some people the wrong way upon its release in 1987, but there’s no denying that between Murphy’s more insensitive bits about women and gay men is some of his most inspired material. While the young comedian indulges an unattractive homophobia and rants about the sexual manipulativeness of all females, he makes up for it with an amazing story about…
